Title: Transport in Complex Media a Magnetic Resonance Perspective

Abstract: Complex media plays a critical role in many technological applications i.e.  separations, catalysis, and even medical diagnosis. Describing transport processes and molecular motion in living and engineered complex media is important to continue to advance these applications. Magnetic resonance (MR) characterization methods, i.e., diffusometry and relaxometry, lend themselves to the investigation of transport/dynamics because of their unique sensitivity to molecular motion governed by the physics in each system. This talk will discuss using MR to explore transport processes where adsorption dynamics influence macroscopic performance. I will show how MR observables are sensitive to systematic changes in pore chemistry and structure in heterogeneous systems. I will present my recent work that furthers the application of MR methods to investigate biological complex media, where the interplay between microstructure/chemistry is essential to providing 'contrast' for diagnostic applications.
