Robotics Graduate Student Seminars

Finally, we have a ground truth!

Nitin Sanket
PhD student, Computer Science

Advisor: Prof. Yiannis Aloimonos

Abstract
There has been a huge advancement in the techniques for localization in GPS-denied environments in the recent years. One of the successful products using such technology is the Google Tango. However, there has also been an exponential increase in the number of high-rise buildings with glass walls and repetitive structures for energy efficiency - where in the traditional approaches do not work. In this talk, I will present an approach which uses fiducial markers and can provide very high accuracy localization using only cameras. This can be used as a ground truth for benchmarking other localization or odometry algorithms.

About the Robotics Graduate Student Seminars

The Robotics Student Seminars at the University of Maryland College Park are a student-run series of talks given by current graduate students.

The purpose of these talks is to:

  • Encourage interaction between Robotics students from different subfields;
  • Provide an opportunity for Robotics students to be aware of and possibly get involved in the research their peers are conducting;
  • Provide an opportunity for Robotics students to receive feedback on their current research;
  • Provide speaking opportunities for Robotics students.

This Event is For: Graduate • Undergraduate
