TALK TITLE:
Recent Applications of System Identification at NASA Langley Research Center

ABSTRACT:
This presentation will focus on aircraft system identification, which is the process of determining useful mathematical models of systems from measured flight test data and other information, such as wind tunnel tests and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) solutions.  This subject will be briefly introduced, and then recent case studies investigated at NASA Langley Research Center will be discussed, including subscale models, unusual configurations, real-time modeling, and flexible aircraft.  Examples include the T-2 airplane, X-56A MUTT, X-59 QueSST, and others.

SPEAKER BIO:
Dr. Jared Grauer (Ph.D. '11) has been a research aerospace engineer at NASA Langley Research Center in Hampton Virginia, within the Dynamic Systems and Controls Branch, since 2010.  His work primarily focuses on system identification, feedback control, and flight dynamics.  He is an associate fellow of the AIAA and serves on its Atmospheric Flight Mechanics technical committee.  He earned a Ph.D. from the University of Maryland in 2011, as well as his M.S. and B.S. degrees before that.  He teaches ENAE642 as a lecturer, and is currently instructing ENAE432.
