Building Your Toolkit Part 1: How Faculty & Staff Contribute to Transfer Student Success Beginning in the 1960s, transfer student research has historically focused on transfer shock as the singular experience of transfer students (Hills, 1965). Since that time, scholars have shifted their focus to more holistically describe the transfer student experience as an adjustment process (e.g., Townsend , 1994). More recently, Lanaan and colleagues (2010) coined the term Transfer Student Capital in order to describe sources of capital that students acquire through the transfer process. The purpose of this presentation is to introduce the concept of Transfer Student Capital and to provide tools for faculty and staff to support their students in developing academic and social capital at UMD. This Event is For: Faculty • Staff |
