Speaker

Dr. Pamela Abshire
Professor
Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering
University of Maryland, College Park

Abstract

Autonomy requires awareness of the environment. For most real-world applications this necessitates on-board sensing, however, there is a constant demand to reduce the size and power consumption of sensors. Adaptive circuits that use local low-level tuning are a promising solution. This talk will introduce methods that have been used to design adaptive sensors and sensor interfaces for a number of applications.

Biography

Pamela Abshire is Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering and the Institute for Systems Research at the University of Maryland, College Park. Her research focuses on better understanding and exploiting the tradeoffs between performance and resources in natural and engineered systems, including hybrid devices incorporating CMOS, MEMS, optoelectronics, microfluidics, and biological components.
