University of Maryland (UMD) aerospace engineering junior Dylan Hurlock received a Distinguished Scholar Award from the Wings Club Foundation. The foundation’s scholarships provide financial support to high-achieving students with diverse backgrounds, championing the next generation of industry leaders.
Hurlock conducts undergraduate research under Associate Professor Christoph Brehm as part of an honors thesis, with Assistant Professor John Martin serving as his faculty advisor. His current project focuses on validating a cold-flow ramjet case using the Champs+ computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software developed at the University of Maryland.
Part of the UMD Hypersonics Team, overseen by Brehm and Professors Johan Larsson, and Gianna Valentino, Hurlock is also contributing thermal analysis for a competition vehicle being developed through the University Consortium for Applied Hypersonics.
 After graduation, Hurlock plans to pursue a Ph.D. in aerospace engineering, with a concentration in either aerodynamics or propulsion. His long-term goal is to apply his expertise in CFD and propulsion to develop advanced hypersonic aircraft.
Hurlock and his 21 fellow Wings Club awardees, representing top programs from around the country, were recognized on October 17 during the foundation’s annual gala event hosted in New York City.
